Immortality
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the following:
Mortal…subject to death.
Immortal…exempt from death.
Immortality…unending existence
Today, I would like to offer two truths and one question.
Truth #1) We are all mortal (subject to death).
Truth #2) We would all desire to be immortal (exempt from death).
Big Question) Is immortality possible and available for mankind (unending existence)?
God’s Word has offered an answer to this incredible question, Is immortality possible and available for mankind.
2 Timothy 1:10 (NLT)
And now he [God] has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News [the Gospel message of Jesus Christ].
God has offered immortality (unending existence/eternal life) to mankind by offering Jesus Christ as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of man. It was the sin of Adam, the first man, that brought death and mortality to all mankind. It was the sinless sacrificial blood of the Lamb of God-Jesus that brought immortality and the resurrection to mankind.
Immortality requires a supernatural transformation, like being born again. Immortality can only come from One that is immortal. Only God can grant immortality/eternal life.
1 Corinthians 15:53-55 (NLT)
For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
But there is another spirit power at work on earth. The Apostle John calls it the spirit of antichrist (1 John 4:3). The spirit of antichrist (under the authority of Satan) and the Holy Spirit are both operating on the earth presently. The Holy Spirit of Christ offers immortality and now I see movement by the spirit of antichrist to match God’s offer of immortality through artificial intelligence (AI). I believe Artificial Intelligence is the spirit of antichrist plan to replace the One True God and offer a counterfeit immortality to mankind.
I went online and asked GROK2 (the AI initiative of Elon Musk) this question…Is it possible for AI to give immortality to humans. I will list Grok’s response below.
GROK’s Response begins here…The notion of AI providing immortality to humans is a topic of intense speculation, debate, and research within both scientific and philosophical communities. Here are some key points from various perspectives:
Biological Immortality:
• Nanotechnology and Medicine: There's a theory that AI could assist in achieving biological immortality through nanobots or advanced medical technologies. These nanobots, as suggested by futurists like Ray Kurzweil, could repair cellular damage at a microscopic level, potentially halting or reversing aging. The idea is that AI could optimize these nanobots to target and repair the root causes of aging, diseases, and cellular decay.
• Genetic Engineering: AI could play a significant role in genetic research, identifying and editing genes that contribute to aging or disease, thereby extending human lifespan. However, this approach is still theoretical and faces significant ethical and technical challenges.
Digital Immortality:
• Mind Uploading: This concept involves transferring human consciousness into a digital or robotic form, potentially allowing a form of immortality where a digital version of a person could "live" indefinitely. However, this idea is fraught with philosophical questions regarding the nature of consciousness and identity. Critics argue that even if a digital copy exists, it wouldn't be the same as the original person, essentially creating a digital "twin" rather than true immortality.
• Digital Legacy: AI can also create digital replicas or avatars of deceased individuals based on their digital footprint (texts, videos, social media interactions), offering a form of "presence" after death. This isn't true immortality but rather a way to interact with a representation of someone who has passed away, which has psychological and ethical implications.
Ethical and Philosophical Considerations:
• Ethics of Immortality: There's a significant debate about whether immortality would even be desirable. Some argue that the natural cycle of life and death is integral to human experience, identity, and societal evolution. Immortality could lead to overpopulation, resource depletion, and existential questions about the purpose of life without the inevitability of death.
Identity and Consciousness: The philosophical challenge of defining consciousness makes it difficult to assert that digital immortality would be equivalent to human life. If consciousness isn't fully understood, how can we claim to replicate or transfer it?
Current State and Future Possibilities:
• While the technology for true biological or digital immortality does not currently exist, there are ongoing advancements in AI, biotechnology, and neuroscience that could push these boundaries. However, even optimistic predictions like those from Ray Kurzweil about achieving immortality by 2030 or 2045 are met with skepticism due to the complexity of human biology and the human mind.
In conclusion, while AI might not provide literal immortality in the sense of eternal life, it could potentially extend human life significantly through medical and biological enhancements, or offer a semblance of digital immortality. However, these possibilities come with numerous scientific, ethical, and philosophical challenges that remain unresolved. END OF GROK RESPONSE.
I close today’s message with Moses’ challenge to ancient Israel. This life and death offer of God still stands for all who will place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
20 You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Immortality requires a supernatural transformation, like being born again. Immortality can only come from One that is immortal. Only God can grant immortality/eternal life.
