Not Our Rock

Published June 9, 2025

Jesus Christ is our firm foundation. He is the Rock that we stand upon. He is the Rock that holds the church firm in the time of storms, testing and trials. Jesus is the Rock of our salvation. But the truth is this…many will reject this Rock that we stand upon today. And Jesus will become a stumbling stone instead of the Rock of salvation.

 1 Peter 2:8 (NLT)

And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

They stumble over the very Rock that God the Father sent to save them from the coming storm of God’s judgment. They stumble over Jesus by rejecting the Word of God, refusing to believe that the Word became flesh (human), in the person of Jesus Christ.

If you reject this Rock from heaven, then you will be left to stand alone when the storm of God’s judgment and wrath comes upon all mankind.

 Revelation 6:16-17 (NLT)

And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.

17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”

Moses describes this Rock of Salvation issue in the Old Testament regarding the people of Israel.

 Deuteronomy 32:31 (NLT)

But the rock of our enemies is not like our Rock, as even they recognize.

Our Rock (Jesus) is not like the rock of our enemies (those who reject Jesus as Lord). Our Rock is not like their rock…the church must come to grips with this truth today. The world has rejected the Rock that we stand upon. The world is standing on sinking sand today and one day they will cry out for the rocks to “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.”

Our Rock is not like their rock. What would that other rock look like today? I want you to notice carefully the writings of Moses in that next verse…

 Deuteronomy 32:31-33 (NLT)

But the rock of our enemies is not like our Rock, as even they recognize.

32 Their vine grows from the vine of Sodom, from the vineyards of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison, and their clusters are bitter.

33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.

Today, I encourage you to stand firm on the Rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ. There is no other Rock, no other Name that can save us from the coming judgment of God.

 Acts 4:12 (NLT)

There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

 Maranatha, Hosanna, Hallelujah and Amen,
